31 hrs a year in road jams

-

DRIVERS spent an average 31 hours in traffic jams last year, leaving them £1,168 out of pocket, figures show.

It rose to 74 hours and £2,430 in London, Europe’s second most congested city behind Moscow.

The cost includes fuel waste and higher prices in shops as freight costs soar.

Dr Graham Cookson, of traffic data firm Inrix, said: “Congestion takes billions out of the economy.”

The Department for Transport said it is putting £23billion into roads
