Tot quiz good enough to remain

- IANHYLAND on last night’s telly

When I heard ITV was making a new gameshow called What Would Your Kid Do? I was hoping for a sibling-based take on Mr & Mrs featuring Noel and Liam Gallagher.

Turns out, it’s just a load of parents trying to win prizes by guessing how their children will react in various classroom and playground situations.

So it does have a bit of Mr & Mrs in it. As well as a large slice of Child’s Play, and a whiff of Kids Say The Funniest Things and Big Star’s Little Star. Mainly though, it just looked like ITV had watched C4’s The Secret Life Of 5 Year Olds and thought, ‘Hey, we could easily turn this into a quiz. It’ll fill an hour. We just need to check Pip Schofield’s availability.’”

Pip was obviously busy. Stephen Mulhern must have been tied up too. So Jason Manford got the nod.

To be fair, it did the job. The kids were bearably cute and the parents didn’t do too much cooing over their brilliant offspring. The rounds were good fun too. I enjoyed the bit where the kids were asked to explain Brexit: “It’s breakfast that you sit on.” (At least I think they said sit.) That was followed by another toughie: “Is it ever OK to tell a lie?” The youngsters worried what would happen if someone found out they were lying. Don’t sweat it, kids. As long as you don’t write it on the side of a bus you should be fine.
