MORGAN’S BAT OUT OF HELL GOAL
Australia v England T20 international, Hobart, 8.40am
EOIN MORGAN will lead England into their first Tri-Nations T20 Series this morning hoping to find form with the bat.
The England skipper captained the one-day side brilliantly to their 4-1 series win in Australia.
And Morgan, 31, will be hoping to make an impression at the crease in the next two weeks against the Aussies and New Zealand, having endured a lean run during the 50-over matches.
Despite his struggles he captained brilliantly, particularly in the field, and will try to marshal his resources equally well in a format that can discourage calm heads.
“It’s a difficult balance but it’s about playing it as you see it when you’re out there, taking a reasonable gamble when you think it’s worth it,” he said ahead of the clash in Hobart.
“It’s getting your big matchwinners, your most effective guys, into the right match-ups as early as possible.”
The Trans-Tasman contest, co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand, sees each side play each other twice before a final in Auckland.
“I’m a massive fan of tri-series, they bring the competitive nature out in teams,” added Morgan. “If we could play more we would but I don’t think it’s viable with the schedules.”
