Grenfell cladding around 300 buildings ‘was not fire tested’

- BY MATTHEW YOUNG

FLAMMABLE cladding on 300 highrise buildings including Grenfell Tower was not put through legally required fire safety tests, investigators think.

Three inquiries – including the Dame Judith Hackitt review of building regulations – are reportedly yet to find any record of the necessary independent trials on materials.

Shadow Housing Secretary John Healey said the lack of tests CONCERNED Labour’s Mr Healey “suggests the rot in our system of building regulation goes even deeper than we feared”. The Grenfell Tower tragedy in June killed 71. The type of cladding it had failed all fire tests done after the blaze in Kensington, West London. The Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government said: “Those carrying out building work, including... cladding systems, should comply with building regulations.”
