Court shown shot of ‘fatal mauling dog’
THIS is the dog that killed a man seven days after police handed it back to its owner, a court heard.
David Ellam, 52, had complained of his neighbour’s Staffordshire bull terrier cross Alex, believing it was a banned breed.
Police seized it but found it was not. Mr Ellam was attacked in August 2016 and died in hospital.
Dog warden Tina Shaw had visited owner Aaron Joseph, who was “argumentative and dismissive”.
She added: “We said [it] had to be muzzled. He said it was not a bad dog and he was not going to listen.”
Joseph, 30, of Huddersfield, denies owning a dog that caused death while dangerously out of control.
The Leeds crown court trial continues.
