Fellow original is ‘brother in arms’

ANTON Du Beke says he was “heartbroken” at the news fellow professional Brendan Cole would not be returning to Strictly Come Dancing.

He and Cole were the only remaining original dancers on the show – and the 51-year-old told ITV’s Lorraine he will miss his “brother in arms” terribly.

He said: “It was one of the saddest things I’ve watched on TV, I was heart-

broken for him – and for me – because I’m going to miss him enormously.

“Having been there since the start, there’s a brother-in-arms sort of thing.”

Last week Cole, 41, announced he would not be returning as the BBC had decided not to renew his contract.

He had clashed with head judge Shirley Ballas. And, asked if he and the other dancers felt they must “mind their Ps and Qs more”, Anton said: “I don’t think that was anything to do with it.

“As Brendan said last week, it was an editorial thing. It’s the same every year.”

Du Beke did not confirm or deny if he would be returning next series.
