US health system sicker than NHS
President Trump’s attack on our NHS is a pathetic attempt by this billionaire to justify his own political and economic interests. That is, capitalists like him making millions out of people’s ill health.
The NHS is a wonderful thing and the only reason it is suffering is because this Tory Government has seriously underfunded it over the last eight years in the hope people will blame the system and allow parts of it to be privatised.
We can already see this happening with private companies supplying goods at inflated prices.
We need a change of Government, otherwise this fantastic service will be replaced by the horrific system they have in the US, where people who cannot afford to pay for healthcare have to suffer or take on debt.
Neil Chapman, Leicester
# Donald Trump seized on current funding problems in our NHS to berate universal state healthcare funding. Our NHS is the envy of the world for its service and the ethics of its creation. Here in Britain, you will be cared for, regardless of your ability to pay. That is something the poorest citizens of the US could only dream of under Mr Trump’s presidency, and he should not be proud about that.
Diane Silva Lytham, Lancs
# With respect, Mr President, you are delusional with regards to the reason tens of thousands of people marched in
protest last Saturday, not only in London, but countrywide.
They were protesting at our incompetent Government’s mishandling of the NHS.
To coin a phrase concocted by yourself, your tweet was ‘fake news’!
Gordon Legg, Southampton
# So, the idiotic Trump attacks our wonderful NHS. I think I know where most people in this country would rather be if they were sick, poor or elderly – and it’s not the US.
I have been in hospital several times and I have received wonderful treatment from our NHS doctors and nurses. They, and all our NHS staff, are national treasures. It is not
for Trump, or any American, to lecture us about healthcare.
Michael Whitcombe Ottery St Mary, East Devon
# Some of what Donald Trump said is true, the NHS is bankrupt and is not working as it should, but this is not the fault of the system or the people who work in it. No, the fault lies with this Tory Government that is deliberately starving it of funding.
Vin Ryan, Pontyclun, Mid Glam
# The NHS doesn’t make any sense to Donald Trump because its job is to save lives, not make money. The bigoted and reactionary US President should focus on his own backyard, instead of butting into the problems of our treasured NHS. And yet our PM, Theresa May, stands shoulder to shoulder with him which should shame all who voted for her. It’s time we had Jeremy Corbyn as prime minister.
Steven McNamara Middlesbrough
# American Wall Street vulture capitalists would absolutely run rampant if given the opportunity to carve up the NHS in a post-Brexit US/UK trade deal.
