Waitrose 1 Champagne Truffles (115g), £7.99, Waitrose In a chic, black box and wrapped in black tissue for extra mystery, they smelt delicious. Sophisticated with a sensuous melt-in-themouth champagne centre encased in a rich, da rk chocolate shell, these truffles are a class act.
Heart Assortment Finest Chocolates and Truffles (185g), £19.50, prestat.co.uk In a pink, heart-shaped box with 14 divine centres, from classic violet and rose creme to saffron and ginger fudge, they were exquisite. Each chocolate was in its own little case and oozed oldfashioned charm. Will melt anyone’s heart.
Lindt Lindor Strawberries and Cream (337g), £6, Asda In a baby pink box, the creamy strawberry filling gave the white chocolate a pink hue and was just the right side of cloying. But the whole package was like being stuck in Barbie’s sweet shop as everything was so pink – from the carton and wrappers to the centres.
Pink Himalayan Salted Caramels (120g), £5, Marks & Spencer Great shiny pink chocolate shell that had a nice bite. But the salted caramel filling was a bit too sickly for us. We could only manage a couple and then got a bit bored.
Chocolate Gem Assortment (9 pieces), £20, Godiva Pretty, dainty, white, milk and dark chocolates with a fab choice of fillings including strawberry with a hint of lemon, macadamia nut and praline. The chocolate was very creamy, rich, and chunky. The box is stunning – it looks like an expensive, special treat.
Thorntons Classic Collection (248g), £5, ocado.com All the old favourites from fudge, coffee and strawberry to orange, caramel and Turkish delight with no surprises. The chocolate was decent in a play-it-safe mix of white, milk and dark.
Valentine Goody Bag, £18, Hotel Chocolat A good alternative to the traditional box of chocs with lots of mini packs of tasty treats. The chocolate was chunky and very tasty. The Salted Caramel Kisses were our favourites and went quickly. And the Champagne Truffles and the Raspberry Riot Slab were also yummy.
Honeycomb Crispy Hearts (168g), £4.50, lilyobriens.co.uk A dozen chunky chocolate hearts packed with honeycomb which added texture and crunch. Tasty chocolate made them moreish and while they were unassuming, they won’t disappoint.
