DRAMA

-

ARRIVAL Alice has a baby SKY1, 9pm

More murder, kidnap, treachery and sweaty men doing manual labour as this period drama, from the makers of Downton Abbey, returns for a second run.

This is the Virginia saga set in the 1600s, following Alice (Sophie Rundle), Verity (Niamh Walsh) and Jocelyn (Naomi Battrick), and the mostly awful men they are forced to marry. It’s a bit like watching EastEnders, just set 400 years ago.

As it begins, Alice is heavily pregnant, but immediately topples down the riverbank, which sends her into early labour meaning she has the baby right there and then in the river.

And there’s intrigue from the off as a terrible crime throws suspicion on the entire colony, while Jocelyn’s position in Jamestown comes under threat.

Tonight’s double bill will hook you in with news of a traitor who threatens the peace, then later the Rutters hatch a moneymaking scheme.

Well less of a scheme, and more of a crime if we’re honest. GUEST AND HOST Saoirse Ronan will chat to Graham
