JESSIE WARE

-

Jessie. The two-time BRIT nominee, who released third album Glasshouse last October, has just got her third nod, this time for Best Female Solo Artist, up against Dua Lipa and Paloma Faith.

Ahead of the ceremony on February 21, she’s performing a gig for War Child’s BRITs week, shortly followed by the start of her two-month tour and an appearance at California’s Coachella Festival in April.

It’s no wonder Jessie’s finding it tough juggling work and home.

“I don’t think I’ve found the balance if I’m honest,” she says. “I think I knew when I had the baby that I couldn’t go away for years – I knew I had to work. I knew that people were just kind of discovering me.

“The fact that I know I wrote most the songs when she was a newborn... that feels mental and I don’t think I could do that again! By the end of last year I was absolutely zonked. I think I was running off sheer adrenalin for a long time.”

Jessie’s enlisting the help her younger brother Alexander who is taking time off from being a junior doctor to help with the baby on tour.

“It’s definitely been a juggling act but I have an amazing family that support me so much,” she said.

Jessie, married to childhood sweetheart Sam Burrows, is also passionate about her work as a Unicef Ambassador which takes her to some of the most deprived places on Earth.

“I did a trip in December to Bangladesh where the Rohingya people have been escaping too,” she said.

“They now have the biggest refugee camp in the world.

“It’s a huge children’s crisis. It’s so important to talk about.

“I think you can’t help but compare these situations to your own and it makes me appreciate how lucky I am to have a child that’s safe, who is healthy, who is warm and that doesn’t need to be scared of these awful things.”

Jessie Ware is performing at London’s Bush Hall on Monday as part of War Child BRITs Week together with O2.
