Turner has final say in Giants win

-

CENTRE Jordan Turner scored the decisive try as Huddersfield opened their new season’s Super League win account.

But Wire’s Aussie chief Steve Price is still waiting for his first win after last week’s opening-night loss to champions Leeds.

Turner’s 62nd-minute touchdown sealed victory to atone for his team’s previous 38-12 defeat at Hull FC.

Winger Tom Lineham’s superb catch and finish from Stefan Ratchford’s kick gave Warrington a fifth-minute lead.

But by half-time the Giants were good value for a 14-6 advantage as Dale Ferguson and then Darnell McIntosh (top) slid over for two tries.

Danny Brough kicked both conversions and landed a 35th-minute penalty.

Kiwi Bryson Goodwin kicked a penalty after the interval hooter to reduce the visitors’ deficit to 14-6.

The second half proved even scrappier, with two bouts of fisticuffs and Wire’s Mike Cooper put on report for appearing to kick out in the tackle.

And when Matty Russell failed to deal with Brough’s grubber, Turner followed up to touch down.

Brough goaled to leave Warrington three scores adrift – and a gap too far.
