JONES GIVES THE WELSH A KICKING

- BY ALEX SPINK

EDDIE JONES has lit the fuse on tomorrow’s England-Wales clash by blasting the conduct of opposition captain Alun Wyn Jones. Red Rose boss Jones claims his namesake tried to “stop the referee from allowing a kick at goal”

during Wales’ Six Nations opener against Scotland.

“We can’t have that in the game,” raged the Aussie, who revealed he had lodged a complaint with World Rugby, the sport’s governing body. “That’s borrowed from another sport and I really hope World Rugby don’t allow that to creep into the game.”

The incident followed Peter Horne (left) scoring Scotland’s consolation try 90 seconds from the end. The Wales skipper appeared to query whether the score should be awarded and obstructed the ball to prevent a quick conversion whilst the officials checked a replay.

“I’ve said something to World Rugby,” said Jones, who is confident there will be no repeat at Twickenham as ref Jerome Garces “won’t tolerate that sort of stuff, won’t let Alun Wyn Jones referee the game”.
