BOG OFF, DEADLY DUCK DISCS
After Sir David Attenborough’s spotlight on the impact selfish human habits are having on life in the world’s oceans, I’ve been hot on the case of various supermarket brands. I spotted a major offender, Duck Fresh Discs, (no, me neither) in my local Sainsbury’s, which, in small print, claims to “prevent limescale build-up” and then states “harmful to aquatic life with long-lasting effects”. What the hell? Of course, it’s not the only offender. Chlorine bleach anyone? An essential weapon in the household fightback against teenage bathroom habits, maybe, but not that different from a First World War chemical weapon and a threat to the environment as well as human, and aquatic, health. Many countries have banned chlorine bleach. There are lots of natural cleaning products in the UK, so why don’t we ban it too?
