IRISH TURNED ON BY SEXTON

- BY MICHAEL SCULLY IRELAND XV:

JOHNNY SEXTON’S will to win is driving Ireland towards a tilt at the Six Nations title.

That’s the view of skipper Rory Best, who hailed Sexton’s drop-goal winner in Paris last week, ahead of today’s home tie against Italy.

Asked what having Sexton in the side means to Ireland, Best said: “It gives you a world-class player. We’ve seen it last week (against France).

“In big moments, in big games, he has the ability to step up. It is just the way he is around the place – he holds himself to the highest standards.

“He is just a competitor. When you get that, and a few more people of the same ilk, it spreads through the squad. Then, you get young guys coming in and they see that’s the way you behave. All of a sudden, you get a trend within a squad.”
