AUB READY TO THIERR IT UP
ARSENE WENGER has paid PierreEmerick Aubameyang the ultimate compliment by likening him to Thierry Henry.
Wenger admits he was secretly pleased when Aubameyang (left) admitted he modelled himself on the Arsenal legend – and believes he can live up to such high standards.
Former Arsenal star Henry is the club’s greatest-ever goalscorer and Aubameyang, 28, will be desperate to make himself an instant hero in the north London derby.
Gunners boss Wenger said: “He is most like Thierry with his quality of runs. But it’s a bit too early to compare him to the best player who ever played here!
“It is an ambitious statement, but a good one. He has played one game. But it’s a good example to follow. His finish for his first goal against Everton was brilliant.
“His finishing is good. You don’t score by coincidence for so many years. Running wise, he’s a good example to follow. But Thierry came a bit more to the ball as well, participated more in the game.”
Aubameyang was ill last week, but still made his debut, and Wenger expects him to be fitter and sharper against Tottenham.
“He looks to be a happy boy,” he added. “He has a positive smile and very professional attitude. He looks like a guy who needs to be completely focused, involved in his team. He looks to me like that.”
