STRIKER’S CAM BACK COULD HURT NORWICH

- BY JAMES NURSEY

GARY ROWETT is backing Cameron Jerome to haunt his old club Norwich today after suggesting they did not use the striker properly.

Derby boss Rowett snapped up striker Jerome in January in a £2million deal from their Championship rivals. Norwich’s German boss Daniel Farke only started the forward 11 times this term.

But Jerome still had several promotion-chasing sides after him and he has made an impact at second-placed County. He was denied a stonewall penalty (above) on his debut as sub against Bristol City and got off the mark in his first start against Brentford.

“Cameron is an all-rounder,” assessed Rowett ahead of the Canaries’ visit.

“He is strong, he is physical, you can kick to him, put balls in behind and he can unsettle defenders. His build-up play is pretty good and he can score goals.

“In nearly every full season he has had in the Championship, when he has been used the right way, he has scored 15 to 20 goals.

“He is not fully fit, you could see that at times against Brentford, but he will get better. The only way sometimes to get that fitness is to get him out there.

“We are really pleased with him, pleased he got his goal because that always settles strikers down, but pleased with his all-round performance also. He is going to be a big player for us.”

Norwich midfielder Tom Trybull will probably miss the rest of the season with serious ankle and knee injuries.

Trybull (above) was hurt during the Canaries’ 1-0 home win over Middlesbrough last week, soon after scoring the winner. Farke said: “It was just really bad luck.

“He was fouled and that caused the ankle injury, then the player fell on him and that caused the knee injury.

“It’s bad news for us because he is such a crucial player. He might be back by April, but realistically it looks like the end of his season.”

Norwich will replace Trybull with another highly-rated young German, on-loan Augsburg playmaker Moritz Leitner.

Farke said: “He has captained the Germany Under-21 team and has also played for Borussia Dortmund and Lazio.

“Everyone predicted he would play for the full national team and if you watched him you would know why.”
