HARSLEY HAS HECK OF A JOB AT BARNSLEY

-

BARNSLEY chief executive Gauthier Ganaye has assured fans there is life after Paul Heckingbottom, insisting: “We’re not a one-man club.”

The Tykes face Sheffield Wednesday in a South Yorkshire derby at lunchtime with Under-23s coach Paul Harsley stepping into the Oakwell hot seat.

Heckingbottom (above) left for Elland Road this week just four days after signing a new contract at Oakwell – with Leeds activating his £500,000 release clause.

But Ganaye said: “Paul Harsley knows the club through and through. It makes him the ideal person to lead us towards what is an important game for the town, the club and the fans. Let’s get behind him.

“Paul leaving was unexpected, it has come during a complicated period and it will make things more difficult short term. But our club is full of resources and not dependent on one man alone.”

Injured Fernando Forestieri has dealt Wednesday a huge blow by ruling himself out for at least another two months.

And new boss Jos Luhukay fears their star forward could miss the rest of the season with damaged knee ligaments.

Luhukay said: ”It is very difficult. You cannot say a date for sure.”
