MUSGROVE IN HISTORIC MEDAL VOW

- BY PIPPA FIELD in PyeongChang

ANDREW MUSGRAVE has vowed to crack the podium after nearly pulling off one of the great Olympic shocks.

The cross-country skier finished seventh in the 30km skiathlon, Britain’s best-ever result in the sport.

Now it is all about medals in his signature 15km event on Friday.

“When we had a lap and a half to go I was feeling really good and confident. I thought I’d be able to get a medal,” said Musgrave, 27, (above) who finished fourth at last year’s World Championships. “It’s a decent result but I’m not at the Olympics to come seventh. I’m here to fight for a win. If you told me 10 years ago I would be seventh in the Olympics, I wouldn’t have thought I would be disappointed with it. ”But that is what makes an athlete – you want more. That’s why I do this. If you don’t believe you can win, then you’re not going to spend the thousands of hours out training, suffering every week and pushing your pain limits every session.”

Watch Andrew Musgrave go for his medal on Friday at 6am on Eurosport 1.
