AND THE UGLY

Jones brings in Georgia for ferocious scrum practice

- BY ALEX SPINK

EDDIE JONES has stepped up his bid for global supremacy by flying in the “biggest, ugliest, strongest pack in the world” to scrum against.

England’s tough-talking boss refused to take his foot off the gas after his 24th win from 25 attempts. Instead he called up Georgia, ranked 12 in the world, and invited them to London for two days of scrummaging.

Jones (right) said: “We want to have the best scrum in the world and they’re the biggest, ugliest, strongest scrum pack in the world. Why wouldn’t we want to scrummage against them? It’s fantastic.

“We want to win the Six Nations but we’re also using this as a trial for the World Cup, so it’s a great opportunity to get some really quality scrum practice in.

“It will be practice, but we will do the same number of scrums we would have in a game.”

The two nations will pack down tomorrow and Wednesday in a fallow week in the Six Nations and England captain Dylan Hartley promised there would be no holding back. “Every scrum has to be intense otherwise you get folded up like a travel map stuffed in your back pocket,” he said.
