CONTE: I’VE BEEN A DISASTER IN THE TRANSFER MARKET

Chelsea v West Brom Stamford Bridge, 8pm

- BY JOHN CROSS

ANTONIO CONTE admits he has been a “disaster” in the transfer market.

Under-pressure Conte was left infuriated by the January transfer window and Chelsea also missed out on transfer targets

last summer, including Alexis Sanchez, Virgil van Dijk and Alex Sandro.

That put boss Conte on collision course with the club but the Italian even claimed he is a victim of his own success because he improves his squad which makes it difficult to persuade clubs to buy new players.

The Blues boss said: “I think I’m a bit of a disaster trying to convince the club to buy the players.

“In this aspect I have a lot to learn from the other coaches and managers.

“I have to speak more with the managers who are very, very good to persuade their clubs to spend money and buy top players,” said Conte, who knows his job will come under further scrutiny unless Chelsea beat bottom club West Brom tonight.
