Pups in box were so sick, hearing told
Probe in London ‘tip of iceberg’
AN alleged puppy dealer kept animals infested with worms and fleas in a Barbie doll box, a court heard yesterday.
One of the six tiny Jack Russell-chihuahua crosses died after an RSPCA raid on the home of Victoria Montgomery, 55.
A video of the raid in Barking, East London, showed RSPCA inspector Will Rippon describing one of the pups as “very lethargic and very thin with a fat belly”. He said there was a “very bad smell”.
Prosecutor Hazel Stevens told Southend magistrates in Essex: “Montgomery along with others were involved in having puppies in their premises, in selling puppies or breeding and acquiring puppies for sale.”
She told investigators that most of the pups were for her grandchildren.
Montgomery, now of Dagenham, Essex, denies a charge of failing to ensure animal welfare.
