It’s welcome to Simm city

Honestly, you wait ages for a new drama starring John Simm and then two turn up at once. If you missed one of his buses last night, you’ve got some catching up to do. If you missed both, you’ve really got some catching up to do.

In ITV’s Trauma, Simm plays Dan, who is convinced the surgeon who tried to save his stabbing victim son’s life was in fact responsible for his death. By the end of the first episode Dan was working in the hospital coffee shop, so we know he means business. Simm’s character in BBC2’s

Collateral is also facing a desperate situation. He plays David Mars, a Labour MP who is about to become embroiled in at least two scandals.

There’s more to it than that, though. When you put together a star-studded cast, including Carey Mulligan, Nicola Walker and Billie Piper, you have to make sure they all get a decent slice of the action.
