LAW MUST LET US DIE

# I am delighted the British Medical Associatio­n has at last admitted it recognises the views of top doctors and the public that assisted dying should be legalised (Mirror, Feb 8).

Although we all want doctors to treat our illnesses and save lives whenever possible, the terminally ill surely have a moral right, but not yet the means, to choose a peaceful death.

Prolonging suffering that is against the wishes of a patient is unacceptab­le.

And palliative care is not a solution for everyone.

The law must change to allow terminally ill, mentally competent patients to choose an assisted death and to die with dignity in the UK. Dr Jay Ginn Centre for Research on Ageing and Gender Surrey University # Serious questions need to be put to Transport Secretary Chris Grayling about his favourable treatment of Virgin and Stagecoach, granting them an extension on their West Coast contract. The whole episode stinks.
