With his dopey big grin and benign floppy curls, Stephen Mangan is best known as the genial Brit from Green Wing and Episodes.

So this comedy drama begins with Stephen, true to form, as the lovable Andrew, who lives in Bristol with his wife Kim (Heather Graham no less), and teenage daughter Chrissie.

He’s a travel writer and about to go away for “five or six days, seven tops, eight absolute maximum”. He tells Kim “I love you” so many times that something is not right.

He has a little cry in the car, before carrying out an unbelievable (and yet believable) system of deception. Then he drives to his other family – Denise (Jo Hartley) and their teenage son Kris. It’s a lie that got ever so slightly out of hand. The problem is that Andrew is actually a despicable human who we only like for the first five minutes. Is it funny? Not quite yet, but there’s enough potential for us to tune in next week.
