LABOUR today unveils plans to boost animal welfare, including an end to the badger cull.

They vow to make the UK “a world leader on animal rights”.

LABOUR will today vow to improve animal welfare by ending the badger cull and illegal hunting.

In a mini-manifesto, the party calls for bans on foie gras imports and exports of live animals for slaughter.

Other proposals include stopping third party puppy sales and tackling puppy smuggling with rabies testing before entry to the UK.

Shadow Environmen­t Secretary Sue Hayman said: “With new trade deals on the horizon and the UK no longer subject to EU-wide rules on animal welfare, we want a comprehens­ive legislativ­e agenda in place so the UK becomes a world leader on animal rights.”

Animal Welfare For The Many, Not The Few vows to close Hunting Act loopholes and also reform farm subsidies after Brexit, to discourage intensive farming.

Labour proposes an Animal Welfare Commission­er to enforce new rules.

Compassion in World Farming said they will “revolution­ise” animal welfare.
