THE Fall’s Mark E Smith was battling terminal lung and kidney cancer when he died, his family has announced.
His sisters revealed the cause in an emotional tribute to the singer who passed away aged 60 on January 24.
A statement on the band’s website from Barbara, Suzanne and Caroline read: “We have been left heartbroken and will miss our big brother very much. Mark fought a long and hard battle. He took every treatment going, which could be brutal at times.” Despite his ill health, Smith continued to tour with the band he formed in Prestwich, Greater Manchester. His sisters added: “Mark was such a strong man and hated letting his fans down and tried to carry on regardless against all advice. “Mark had a great life and loved and lived it to the full and always by his own rules.”
