Warship will sail disputed China waters
A ROYAL Navy warship will sail through waters disputed by China next month, the Defence Secretary said yesterday.
Gavin Williamson revealed HMS Sutherland, a Type 23 frigate, is due to pass through the South China Sea on the way back from a Pacific deployment.
The waterway is at the centre of a row between China, which has made claims on islands there, and neighbouring nations.
Beijing slammed the US after its warships sailed in 12-mile territorial waters around the islands.
But Mr Williamson said we back “the US approach on this”, adding: “(The Sutherland will) be sailing through the South China Sea and making it clear our navy has a right to do that.”
