Bet Now ads facing axe in clampdown
ADVERTS urging punters to “bet now” are being banned by regulators.
Actor Ray Winstone’s commercials for bet365, with his “bet in play – now!” catchphrase, will fall victim to the ruling.
Tighter controls will mean it must be clear if punters have restricted odds or need to pay up-front to access free bet winnings. Money-back offers must be in cash and “risk-free” offers should not end in a cash loss.
The Committees of Advertising Practice also says ads must not play on frailties such as money worries or self-esteem.
CAP director Shahriar Coupal said that the rules, in force from April, will “strengthen protections... ensuring gambling is presented responsibly”.
