A BABY was mauled by a fox in her own home.

Seven-month-old Raeya Wyatt could have been killed, her mum said.

A MUM says a fox tried to tear her baby girl to shreds in her own home and nobody can do anything about it.

Seven-month-old Raeya Wyatt was bitten on her hand and foot by the animal which crept in through a back door.

Horrified mum Leanne Boundy, 27, said: “In another minute it could have been a lot worse and ripped her to pieces. You don’t expect a fox to behave in that way.”

Luckily Raeya’s grandad Darren was in the house and scared the fox away.

He said: “The baby was screaming, it all happened in about 30 seconds. I just took her out then phoned the ambulance.”

Full-time mum Leanne added: “Raeya has bite marks on her hand and on her foot, they are puncture wounds.”

Raeya was in hospital for seven hours and needed a tetanus jab and is now on antibiotics. She left hospital on Tuesday but her mum says her girl is still upset.

“My daughter is traumatised and shaken up,” she said. And Leanne is furious that nothing can be done about the fox.

“If this was a dog that came in, it would have been put down,” she said.

Leanne said she had contacted the RSPCA for advice prior to the attack because she was concerned for her children Raeya, Reggie, four and Jimmy, one.

“Several calls have been made to the RSPCA but the fox is still in the garden. As a mother it was terrifying.” “The RSPCA need to come and get it. Darren added: “It is not scared of anything but the council and the RSPCA have told us there’s nothing they can do.

“It has also killed the neighbour’s cat, it is clearly out of control.

“We are really frightened it might come back again and that we may have to take action ourselves to stop this thing.”

South Western Ambulance Service confirmed the attack on Tuesday at 1.47pm West Park, Plymouth.

The RSPCA said: “It’s extremely unusual for foxes to attack young children.

“The RSPCA only helps sick and injured animals or if there is a welfare concern.

“The most humane way to discourage foxes would be to remove things that attract them, such as food and shelter.”
