Brexit for DumBos

-

BORIS Johnson had the opportunity yesterday to make the case for a successful Brexit.

The Foreign Secretary could have reached out to Remainers and he could have sought to explain how the hurdles could be overcome.

In place of an informed argument he offered platitudes, off-colour jokes and baseless optimism. There was no attempt to grapple with the complexities of Brexit.

He failed to mention Northern Ireland and blithely dismissed questions about what would replace the customs union.

Nor did he do anything to dampen fears that Brexit will see the slashing of workers’ rights.

What we got was bombastic language about why our departure should not be seen as giving Europe the V-sign from the cliffs of Dover.

Johnson did flick the V-sign yesterday – at those who wanted more details about the consequences of Brexit.

If the Foreign Secretary is too idle to take Brexit seriously then there is no reason why we should take seriously anything he says.
