Party propping up Theresa May quit power share talks
TALKS between the Democratic Unionist Party and Sinn Fein to restore power sharing in Northern Ireland collapsed last night.
DUP leader Arlene Foster said there was “no prospect” of a return to devolved government, 13 months after the Executive was dissolved.
The stalemate piles renewed pressure on Theresa May, who is desperate to avoid imposing direct rule over the province. She flew to Belfast on Monday for talks with the parties, fuelling hopes a deal was imminent. Mrs Foster – whose 10 MPs prop up the Tories at Westminster – walked away from negotiations over Republican demands around the Irish language. Northern Ireland Secretary Karen Bradley last night admitted UK ministers now faced “challenging decisions”.
