Dragon Ball FighterZ

£43.99, PS4, Xbox One, PC ★★★★

- BY RYAN BROWN

A fighting game based on the immensely popular Japanese animation series Dragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball FighterZ is developed by a company best known for its critically acclaimed 2D fighters, such as BlazBlue and Guilty Gear.

The most striking thing about this game is its breathtaking visuals, which look as if they’ve been ripped straight out of the TV show. Its beautiful fluidity never ceases to amaze even when there’s a mess of action on the screen.

Players select three characters from a roster of 24 for each match, and the simple, uncomplicated controls and combos make it a great entry point for series newcomers. There is a loot box system with randomised rewards, and it uses the in-game currency, not real-life money.

Despite some current online server hiccups, Dragon Ball FighterZ is the best 2D fighting game in years, and easily the most visually impressive.
