Day angry dad beat him up at football match

-

BENNELL once got a hiding from the father of ex-England star Paul Stewart.

Bert Stewart was watching his son play for Manchester-based Nova in the 1970s against a team run by Bennell.

Bennell was rude to Paul’s mum Joyce when she berated him for swearing at one of his players. Joyce, 78, said: “I just said to him ‘leave him

alone’. He had a go at me and Paul’s dad got hold of him by the scruff of his neck and nutted him, he knocked him flying down a grassy bank..

“When we went back to the car, Bennell was there with a wrench in his hand and Bert said to him ‘Come on then’, but he wouldn’t.”

It has emerged Bennell and Frank Roper, the Nova coach who abused Paul for four years, were in a child sex ring.

Bert, 79, had no idea Bennell was abusing boys. He said: “He got what he deserved. I would have killed Frank Roper if I had found out when he was still alive.”
