Dog run over by loco home after a week

- BY ADAM ASPINALL

A LABRADOR run down by a train was home from the vet after just a week.

Poppy was hit after she chased a deer on to a line as her owner walked her.

She then lay still in the middle of the tracks as three other trains passed overhead and missed her.

She had broken ribs and vets in Westbury, Wilts, said things “looked dark” before she pulled through.

Sarah Holmes, of Garston Vets, said: “She had a large wound on her back and was in considerable pain. We were amazed the only broken bones were a couple of ribs.”

Network Rail said a driver raised the alarm at Westbury crossing at 7.30am on January 17.

An operations manager arrived and found injured Poppy 20 minutes later.
