WOLVES JOY BUT REF SORE

Widnes 10 Warrington 18

- BY GARETH WALKER

REF Phil Bentham was among the casualties as Warrington recorded a first win of the season in a chaotic derby.

Bentham had to be helped from the field and replaced by Scott Mikalauskas in the 54th minute, after falling heavily when Widnes forward Chris Houston ran into the back of him chasing a kick. He suffered whiplash and hand injuries.

Wolves coach Steve Price celebrated a first win in charge, with Ryan Atkins scoring twice from high kicks.

Widnes centre Krisnan Inu replied with two, with Wolves’ full-back Stefan Ratchford’s touchdown the clincher.
