Face facts, Mr Oxfam

-

THE chief executive of Oxfam has done himself and his organisation no favours.

Following the horrendous allegations that it covered up abuse by members of his staff, you would have hoped the charity would show some contrition. Instead, its boss Mark Goldring has moaned about the over-reaction.

In a series of ill-judged remarks he claimed the criticism was out of proportion as the behaviour was not as bad as murdering babies.

Mr Goldring then said he struggled to understand why the charity was being attacked.

When its staff stand accused of sexually abusing minors you would have thought the chief executive would have some comprehension of why there was a public outcry.

Oxfam has a proud history of saving lives and lifting people out of poverty. If Mr Goldring cares about its reputation and wants that good work to continue he should stop blaming his critics and start taking responsibility.

His crass comments have only undermined still further the dwindling support for a oncevenerable organisation.
