But it’s unlikely to be his only painful experience as 56 amateur cooks will be trying to impress him to lift the 2018 MasterChef title.

The new series starts a seven-week run from February 26 on BBC One at 9pm. This year the MasterChef market is back, with produce from around the world. Contestants have to invent and cook a dish using anything from the market.

This time, featured ingredients include beef mince, duck breasts, pancetta, cod and mussels.
