Stomach op saved life of runner Dan
MARATHON Dan Taylor AS a dad to two young girls having preventative surgery was an easy decision for Dan Taylor.
The 2012 procedure may have saved his life as post-op tests showed Dan, carrying a faulty CDH1 gene, had stomach cancer despite showing no symptoms.
Last year the 37-year-old from York ran the London Marathon for CRUK and plans more runs this year. He is in training for York’s Elvington Flyer 10-mile run in April.
A faulty CDH1 gene, like the BRCA mutations linked to a higher risk of breast cancer, ups the danger of developing stomach cancer.
Dan said: “It has been very difficult at times, the best thing is that I’m still here to see my two girls as they grow up.”
