WHEATER: HOME FORM CAN SAVE US

DAVID WHEATER is praying Bolton’s home form will be enough to rescue them from the drop after their travel sickness continued at Loftus Road.

The Trotters have picked up just eight points away from home this season – fewer than any other side in the Championship.

This defeat against QPR was Bolton’s sixth loss in seven matches on the road, a run which has dragged them back into the relegation mire.

Phil Parkinson’s side face a crunch clash against fellow strugglers Sunderland tomorrow night and Wheater hopes their home form can keep them up.

The defender said: “I don’t know why we struggle on our travels – I can’t explain it. We don’t do anything differently.

“We’ve picked up a lot of points at home and, if we’re not getting them away, we need to make the Macron a fortress. Our home form can save us, definitely.”

Bolton will have to do without defender Mark Little, after he was sent off for scything down Hoops midfielder Massimo Luongo, nine minutes into the second half.

QPR made their one-man advantage count on 72 minutes when Joel Lynch nodded in at the back post. Ian Holloway’s side wrapped up victory in added time when Matt Smith (above) powered home a header.

Lynch said: “A small group of us are going to the gym at 8am for extra sessions to work on our conditioning, and it has paid off.”
