Give us all the facts

-

WHETHER you voted Remain or Leave in the EU referendum in 2016, we are surely entitled to all the facts on the impact of Britain’s exit from Europe.

We usually disagree far more than agree with senior Conservatives, but Theresa May’s former right-hand man, Damian Green, speaks sense when he calls for all Whitehall’s evidence to be made publicly available.

Voters remain free to make up their minds, but economic forecasts, ultimately funded by taxpayers, should not be restricted to a privileged circle of ministers and civil servants.

Environment Secretary Michael Gove might have no time for experts who disagree with him, yet most people are more open-minded than the shiftiest Tory in the Cabinet.

Britain is leaving the EU, but we are entitled to contribute to an informed debate over how far away we are going and what cost we are prepared to pay in our jobs and livelihoods.

Wild conspiracy theories won’t pay the bills, so let the Government publish and be damned.
