57% call for rail line back

SOME 57% of people want the troubled East Coast Line taken back into public ownership, a poll reveals.

Pressure group We Own It found just 43% think Virgin should run the London to Edinburgh route, 90%-owned by Stagecoach, on a not-forprofit basis until 2020.

Insiders think a Government announcement on the line is imminent and could drop today – weeks after the operator said it could not pay £2billion owed on the franchise.
