£15 egg’s choc win over £250 rival
A HIGH street Easter egg costing £15 beat a £250 designer one in a blind taste test.
Marks & Spencer got a top score of 80 out of 100 for its 250g Belgian Milk and Dark Chocolate Egg with Dulce de Leche Truffles in the Showstoppers section.
But a Faberge-style hand-crafted effort by Bettys weighing 5kg only managed 73.
Good Housekeeping Institute experts, who tasted 142 eggs, praised the M&S egg for “its golden stardust centre” and “dark berry and rich caramel notes”.
Meanwhile, a £7 Co-op and £5 Tesco offering were best milk chocolate egg and dark chocolate egg respectively. And the overall winner was a £24.95 gluten and dairy-free egg by Booja-Booja, scoring 89.
Good Housekeeping’s Caroline Bloor said: “Retailers are having to do more to ensure taste buds are satisfied.”
