Smith: I’m Call-ing all the shots
Fearon glory bid is fuelled by absent team-mate
STRIPPED of his wingman, bobsleigh sprint star Joel Fearon is a man on a mission, determined to do his best buddy Bruce Tasker proud.
CALLUM SMITH predicts he will set up an all-British final against George Groves in the Ali Trophy.
Smith faces Jurgen Braehmer in the second semi of the supermiddleweight tournament in Nuremberg on Saturday and is undaunted about conceding home advantage to the German.
Rising star Smith, 23-0 in his career, believes he will have too much for the veteran Braehmer, a two-time former world light-heavyweight champion. “Braehmer looked good in his quarterfinal against Rob Brant,” said the Scouser. “He’s a good fighter and he’s experienced but I will be too good for him.
“I am expecting a good fight, I am expecting the best version of Jurgen Braehmer, but we have everything covered to make sure I will proceed to the final.”
Smith, who beat Swede Erik Skoglund in his quarter-final, says his camp with trainer Joe Gallagher has gone smoothly.
“I’ve had a good training camp,” he said. “Now it’s all about getting the tactics right, performing on the night. If I do that I should come out on top.”
