SPOTLAND TO DREAMLAND
Spurs new boy Moura survived his first test at Rochdale..just..and now sets his sights on winning a trophy
LUCAS MOURA has promised to make history by helping Tottenham usher in a glorious new era of success.
Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino has made great strides during his four-year reign but has yet to win silverware despite twice going close in the title race and reaching an FA Cup semi-final.
Spurs have not won a trophy since the 2008 League Cup but Brazilian star Moura insists they are set up to win major honours under their Argentinian boss.
Tottenham, still in the FA Cup, held Juventus to a 2-2 draw in Turin last week and former PSG star Moura believes they are good enough to win the Champions League.
Moura said: “Every player wants to win trophies and to make history and I am here to make history with my new team-mates.
“I believe that because here we have a lot of quality, a great structure and I think we can dream with the Champions League. Why not? The Champions League is the most difficult competition but I think we have the capability to win it.
“I am only 25 but I gained a lot of experience with PSG and I can help Tottenham. The key is to think positively and to work hard. We played a big game at Juventus.”
Moura made a scoring debut in Tottenham’s FA Cup draw at Rochdale’s Spotland ground on Sunday and admits playing again was a huge relief after being frozen out at PSG. The Brazil forward, who joined Tottenham in a £25million deal on deadline day, said he is just happy to be playing. “I’m so happy to be on the pitch again. I hadn’t started a game since August so to start against Rochdale was great,” he said. “It’s too difficult for a player when he doesn’t play. Players always want to be on the pitch. But all the time I was out I always stayed positive.
“I uwaited for my opportunity. I got it against Rochdale and I think I played a good game.”
The draw with Rochdale has added another fixture to an already busy schedule for Spurs.
Their Premier League match at Crystal Palace has been brought forward by a day to February 25 and kicks off a run of five matches in the space of 15 days, including the second leg against a wounded
Juve.
