STAFF FACE WAGE CUTS
Workers at supermarket giant Asda face having their hours slashed. Bosses are in the process of holding one-to-one meetings with staff as part of a consultation that began before Christmas.
Tens of thousands of store staff who stack shelves and collect orders for home deliveries are affected.
Insiders say some risk losing 10 hours a week.
One worker told the Mirror: “It is a massive cut and people can’t afford it.
“People are going off sick because they are so worried they can’t pay their bills.
“The atmosphere in stores is terrible. Morale is at rock bottom.”
Asda insisted its priority was to find alternative work in stores for affected staff, rather than cut hours.
It came as Asda announced its sales growth had more than halved to 0.5% in the final three months of 2017, from 1.1% in the previous quarter.
