Widow: Spare me road ban.. my drive is too long to walk
A WEALTHY widow facing a drinkdriving ban claimed she needed her car as her drive was too long to walk.
Barbara Woodward, 56, said the quarter-mile track to her home meant she would “struggle” to get about.
She was found slumped in her £79,000 Mercedes 4x4 two days after her lawyer husband’s funeral, on a trip to buy sparkling wine. Police were called after she was refused alcohol at a petrol station and then drove at 5mph. Woodward, 56, of Chelford, Cheshire, was found guilty of drink-driving by Stockport magistrates who heard she was three times the limit. She asked to be spared unpaid work as she had never had a job and it would make her “uncomfortable and out of her depth”. Magistrates gave her a twoyear ban, a 12-month community order and fined her £560.
