MO’S RUN OF THE BEST

Roma legend Totti says Kop can rule Europe with Salah

- BY DAVID McDONNELL

MO SALAH has been hailed as one of the world’s best players – by former Roma team-mate, Francesco Totti.

Totti, who retired last summer after a glittering 25-year career with Roma, reckons Salah has become a truly elite player following his 30-goal heroics for Liverpool this season. Salah joined the Reds from Roma last summer for £35million and has made a stunning impact in his debut season at Anfield, with a remarkable haul of goals and a host of assists. And Roma legend Totti, who played alongside Salah for the final two seasons of his career (the pair, left), paid tribute to the Egypt star and warned the 25-year-old is going to get even better. “The level he is playing at at the moment, he is one of the best players in the world – and I think he can and will get even better,” said Totti. “I know him well, he is a good friend and wants to keep improving, to keep getting better as a player. “He does all the right things, he trains hard, he works hard, he listens to the coaches – that’s why, as good as he is playing at the moment, I think maybe there is even one more level in him.” Liverpool have virtually guaranteed their place in the Champions League quarter-finals after a 5-0 win away at Porto in the first leg of their last-16 tie.

And Totti believes Jurgen Klopp’s side could be crowned European champions for the sixth time.

“He is one of those players who can make the difference in the big games,” added Totti. “That is why Liverpool cannot be ruled out of winning the Champions League.

“There are more complete teams in the competition – but when you have a player like him, you start to believe anything is possible.”
