BAD KASE OF THE JITTERS

Leeds let it slip twice as Palmer grabs Rams a late point

- BY TIM EVERSHED

DERBY twice came from behind to rescue a point and deny Paul Heckingbottom his first win as Leeds boss.

The visitors took the lead through Pierre-Michel Lasogga and again through Ezgjan Alioski.

But they were pegged back when the outstanding Andreas Weimann levelled on the stroke of half-time before Kasey Palmer’s strike in the 92nd minute.

The Rams signalled their intent in the third minute as Tom Lawrence swapped passes with Joe Ledley then let fly with a shot that comfortably cleared the bar. Matej Vydra won the ball in midfield and found Lawrence charging forward, but David Nugent headed his far-post cross narrowly wide.

Weimann was involved again as he brilliantly controlled Tom Huddlestone’s long ball on his chest before sending a shot over the bar.

Leeds broke against the run of play and Lasogga arrived unmarked to head Stuart Dallas’ cross past Scott Carson in the 34th minute.

Derby continued to press with Lawrence thundering a shot against the bar and Richard Keogh heading wide.

And they got their reward just before the break.

Leeds skipper Liam Cooper sent a poor clearing header towards his own goal and Weimann pounced to smash the ball through keeper Felix Wiedwald’s legs to level the scores.

The first chance after the break fell to Nugent, who screwed his shot horribly wide after Weimann raced past the Leeds defence and pulled the ball back brilliantly from the byline.

The Austria forward popped up once again, this time finding Lawrence whose shot forced Wiedwald into a smart save. The game was opening up as the pace took its toll on both sides and the visitors were able to create some chances of their own.

Dallas picked out Lasogga, but this time the German striker’s header did not trouble Carson.

Leeds substitute Samuel Saiz – back after completing his six-game ban for spitting at an opponent – broke in the 79th minute and sent Alioski through on goal.

Carson saved the Macedonia winger’s initial effort, but his header from the rebound found the net.

That looked to have settled the points until Chelsea loanee Palmer reacted first in a scramble to score.
