Liam and Cheryl... Brit’s love
Couple in loved-up show at music gala
CHERYL Tweedy and Liam Payne put on a united front at the Brit Awards last night, amid speculation about their relationship.
The pair looked loved-up on the red carpet, after the Mirror revealed this week that they were “working through their problems”.
A pal said: “Cheryl was determined to show the world that their relationship is worth fighting for.”
It may have been the music industry’s biggest night but all eyes were on the couple, who have an 11-month-old son, Bear.
Cheryl, 34, wore a Jean-Louis Sabaji dress and held a white rose to support the Time’s Up antiharassment movement. Liam, 24, shared a joke with her before she led him into London’s 02 Arena.
Inside, Liam posted a video of them relaxing on his dressing room sofa, with Cheryl tickling his nose as his pals cooed “ahhh” at the pair.
When the awards got under way, hosted by Jack Whitehall, the night’s big winner was New Rules singer Dua Lipa, 22, who received five nominations and won British Female Solo Artist. She also had social media in a frenzy with her choice of gown: a fairy tale tulle pink Giambattista Valli number. Accepting her award, she said: “Here’s to more women on these stages, more women winning these awards, more women taking over the world.” Grime great Stormzy, 24, in a sharp, electric-blue suit, was named British Male Solo Artist and also bagged best album. The night’s most poignant moment came as Liam Gallagher, 45, paid emotional tribute to the Manchester Arena terror victims, after Ariana Grande had dramatically pulled out due to illness. Organisers scrambled to get the former Oasis frontman to stand in and he performed a moving dedication to the 22 Ariana fans who lost their lives in May last year, singing Live Forever. A source revealed: “It was utter chaos when the call came in that Ariana couldn’t do it. There was a race against time to get a new act, and who better than Mancunian Liam.” A show insider confirmed that everyone had wanted to honour the victims. “The effects of that terrible night resonated far and wide in the industry.” As the gongs were handed out it proved an exercise in frustration for Ed Sheeran, who was snubbed by the Brits academy despite being nominated for four awards. As a consolation, the serial charttopper, 27, who this week sparked rumours he had wed fiancee Cherry Seaborn, did scoop the Global Success Award, on sales alone. Gorillaz took home Best British Group while Kendrick Lamar – whose live number was heavily censored by ITV – and Lorde won Best International Male and Female respectively. Dave Grohl’s Foo Fighters were Best International Group, while Harry Styles won Best Video.
