Divorce blow for retirees

DIVORCEES retiring this year typically expect to be £3,800 worse off annually than married people who decide to stop working.

Average expected yearly income in 2018 for retiring divorcees is £17,600 but £21,400 for those who are married, a study found.

Divorcees are also more likely to be retiring in debt than married people.

Clare Moffat, of Prudential, which quizzed 1,000 potential retirees, said: “The cost of divorce can last well into retirement.”
